Travel Books 2019

Travel books are great for ideas! So, I bought a bunch when I started to think about leaving and I had a few before that as well.

The Most Beautiful Walk in the World by John Baxter

John Baxter is an one of those authors that I just enjoy. I had read Paris at the End of the World which was about how Paris was during the Great War, i.e. WWI.

Then I found out he had The Most Beautiful Walk in the World. I love how he turns a phase and makes Paris come alive as he walks you through the different areas and the history. If you are going to Paris, this a great book to read before. John also give Literary Walking Tours.

If you are a history fan, then his other book is great as well. Telling all kinds of stories about Paris during WWI.

Travel the World on $50 a Day

One of the first that I found when I was looking at traveling the world was that people had blogs about it. I did not even know what a blog was. But I found https://www.nomadicmatt.com/ a web site by Matt Kepnes who wrote the book, How to Travel the World on $50 a Day.

The first two parts of the book have great travel tips. The third is more read if you are interested in that area. My main complaint is that the book tries to throw everything and everyone into it!

It really for the young budget traveler, i.e. those that can run away from home and still sleep on a coach some where. But I do recommend getting the book and bouncing around the the areas that you are most interested in. For example, the chapter, “Buying a backpack”, not worth reading if you are not buying a backpack.

A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering American on the Appalachian Trail

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson is a great little tale about hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It has it ups and downs but it great little book that brings out the travel bug with a guy that is not young but to old to know better.

Even if you will never hike the trail, it gives all the reason that you would not want too. He writes other travel books that I want to read in the future.

Tales of a Female Nomad

Tales of a Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman is about a women who gets a divorce and makes the decision to travel the world and learn about other people. Her adventures in travel. The book was written in 2001, so it is a bit older but I love how she writes about the people and place she visits.

Conclusion

Just a few books that I read last year about travel. I like learn new things about places and peoples. What I love best is learning about from other people mistakes so I don’t have to make the same ones.

But all my links will be things that I have bought myself, want to buy, or have researched in depth to give you the best options because I don’t need 5 laptops but might have different needs in a laptop then me. But I do buy all the books that I add to my site.
