My Favorite Place in D.C.-The Summerhouse
The Summerhouse, off to the side of the U.S. Capital building, is a hexagon shaped brick structure that was build about 1880. It has a waterfall behind it, seating, and a water fountain.

It was build to so that travelers to the Capital had a place for water, to rest, and cool down for a bit between sessions, i.e. before air conditioning. (I wonder how many deals got hashed out here!)

During the heat of the day, this is a great places to fill up your water bottles, wash your hands, escape the heat, and/or have a snack. In the background, you can hear the waterfall and birds chirping. Plus feel a cold breeze.

Or the end of the day, I have hidden in here and read my book while waiting for the traffic to die down to drive home or to the hotel/motel for the night.
