How to Take a Dam Walk at Canoe Creek State Park
As I drove up to the Canoe Creek State Park, I found this family of deer just relaxing and eating their dinner. They did not even care that both myself and another truck has stop and watch them. It was a great to watch them for a bit.
But after a bit, it was time to move to the rest of the park.
It was warm but not hot enough to go for a swim. But walking on the beach felt like I was back in California as the sand was just perfect between my toes.
Only I missed my chance to swim in the water and look at the hills above while doing the backstroke.
I got to take a great walk….
I started walking towards the Dam…
The Dam has steps that you can walk down and walk on the bottom area.
It was totally cool to walk across. If you are inclined to so, they have steps on the other side and a trail going along the lake.
The park has a 12 miles of trail including the Hartman Loop which is a bit of a challenge but goes down to the old Blair Limestone Company quarry and limekilns. I really wanted to do this but my ankle was still hurting and I know that I could only do a bit.
Staying at the Park
The park also has modern cabins but no camping spots. They only have 6 spots so make plans in advance. Reservation.
Other Items
Fishing is available year round as they allow ice fishing available with sledding, cross country skiing, ice skating, and so much more.
The park is also a wonderful site to do Bat viewing as it is a winter hibernation site and a summer maternity site for brown bats that are currently on the endangered species. I would love to see them if I am in the area during this time some year.
