How To Hike The Emperor Run Trail At Choke Canyon State Park

Choke Canyon State Park is full of wild life which can be spotted at every turn. It also has two different Units which include Calliham and South Shore, i.e. they are about a half mile to a mile apart.

Calliham Unit

The Calliham Unit is full of camp sites, cabins, hiking, a boat ramp, a beach, and so much more. This little trail from the parking lot overlooks the reservoir. from a nice height.

Texas is going through a drought as this picture clearly shows. The boat ramp is down at low levels as well as the beach that is normally available for swimming.

The birds use this park as both a home and a resting ground for migration.

The park is beautiful and filled with wildlife. As I was driving into the area, I saw to boars. I know that they are not native to the United States but I think that they are cool. Even if they need to be destroyed to keep them from being an issue to local wildlife and the habitat.

The Emperor Run Trail is a nice little trail to take. It is not very long but it has bird going to and from.

The trail also has this wonderful little bench to sit on and watch the birds and the wildlife go by.

The trail ends at the cabins which have air conditioning but not running water but they have a water outside and a fire pit with a picnic table.

But look at the view!!!!

The best place to find birds is at the fish cleaning area if you want to get close. They are not fool, they know where to get a free meal.

But they are all over the park at every turn!!!

My favorite area of the park is the 75 acre Lake with alligators! It is next to the tent area which above is the view.

I even found a baby gator. He is just a little thing in the middle of the picture but he looks like a brown log.

I just love the colors…But it was hot out the day that I was there and the gators are in the water to cool off. So, I only got to see the one small one.

South Shore Unit

The South Shore Unit only has a picnic area and a boat ramp plus the dam.

The dam is closed to traffic even just people wanting to walk across it.

The picnic areas are just perfect.

The view is just as good.

I started my day with seeing two boars and I finished with seeing this guy. I love traveling!!!!
