Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Trail 115 to 117 Plus-West Newton to Sutersville
The end of this section is beautiful and wonderful and very short!!! If you only have time to do a short hike and are in Pittsburgh, this is a great section during the fall. It is totally Waterfall after Waterfall as the snow is melting. I did this part on April 30th.
Mile 115-Train Accident Site, Little Waterfalls, and Pollock Run
As you cross the Mile 115 marker, you are in Collinsburg. You also cross an intersection where 4 teenagers died and 44 others were injured when a P&LE steam engine struck a school bus head for the High School back in September 17, 1952.
Please take a moment and remember Norma Jean Bergman, Leola Gertrude Bradley, Janice Darlene Everett, and Ronald Soyka.
Along the trail, you have these great little mushrooms grown. They look so cool. But I don’t believe that you can eat them.
The trail is very petty after you go through the little town.
This part of the trail has little Waterfalls all over it. It is also were you leave Westmoreland County and enter Allegheny County.
Pollock Run is very green and pretty.
The Mile 116 marker.
Mile 116-Mountains, Monongahela River, and a Park
The mountain gets pretty top during this section.
The Monongahela River follow you.
A bit of the trail goes through a neighborhood with a nice little park. But I do my best not to have people or their houses in pictures.
A little camera issues but Mile 117 marker.
Mile 117-Waterfalls, Rock Walls, and
The whole walk to the parking area is just Waterfall after Waterfall.
And rock walls.
With cool tree roots.
And Sutersville Parking area.
