Covered Bridge Tour Cumberland County Pennsylvania
I am touring all the covered bridges in Pennsylvania as a way to social distancing travel. Most of the counties in Pennsylvania have covered bridges and it is a great way to visit the country side while getting out of the house.
Cumberland County is wonderful little place to visit with all kinds of interesting things to see and do and be social distant. The views as you travel through are just breathe taking. It also has several different State Parks, the Appalachian Trail, the Susquehanna River, the water trails of Conodoguinet Creek and Yellow Breeches Creek. But after a day of hiking, a tour of the covered bridges are in order.
The Bowmandale Covered Bridge and the Ramp Covered Bridge are about 47 minutes away from each other with the drive on the freeway and through small towns. But look around as you go because it is interesting to see houses from all different time frames, i.e. colony days to current.
Bowmandale Covered Bridge
The Bowmandale Covered Bridge is on the Messiah University campus near the Starry Athletic Complex which was moved here in 1972, the year of my birth. This bridge is very close to the York county line so I might be good to ad.
The campus is very clear that you should only visit for a short time while viewing the bridge. This is not a place to have a picnic unless you are a student or facility member, or a family member of a student or facility.
The Bowmandale Covered Bridge was build in 1867 and is 112 feet long and 15 feet wide.
The Bowmandale Covered Bridge was build in the Burr Truss style.
The Bowmandale Covered Bridge covers the Yellow Breeches Creek.
Ramp Covered Bridge
The Ramp Covered Bridge was build in 1870 and is 130 feet long and 14 feet wide.
The Ramp Covered Bridge was build in the Howe Truss style.
The Ramp Covered Bridge covers the Conodoguint Creek.
