A Beautiful Day at Milton State Park

During a one week trip that I took in late August, I visited this little park. It was one of the few places that I allowed myself to break my social distancing contact rules. I actually scratched a pug mixes bottom but was careful to keep from breathing on him and having him breath on me.

He was so cute. Even cuter then the park.

The boat launch allows you in to West branch of the Susquehanna River on an boat that yo might bring with you.

The park has wide trails that are easy to follow. It has about 3.5 miles of trails with views of the Susquehanna River

After Covid19 goes away, they have what looks like a really great park for children.

This is not a park that you would go out of your way to find but if you are every in Northumberland county.

Brief History

In 1762, Mr. Huling Jr. claimed one of three islands in this area. He planted an apple orchard. By 1824, the Straub brother owned the island and built both a sawmill and gristmill. Later, the island only was used as farm land as two of the island merged after several floods.

In the early 1900, the land was used as athletic fields as baseball was large through America and the two island became one island. In 1966, the land was transferred to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1972, Hurricane Agnes completely covered the island.

The park is now has very little on except a boat launch, some picnic areas, a ball field, parking, and a few very nice trails. In addition, all the trees are about the same age as I am because the flood was the same year that I was born.
