Grayson Lake State Park

Grayson Lake State Park in Kentucky is an amazing place to visit. It was just like heaven when I visited. The clouds came over the hills and the hills were just so green. Plus it has to different dams. I just wish I had a boat to completely enjoy it!

The one dam is clearly waiting for the flood of the century to come. It also has this two wonderful waterfall within the park which one you have to Kayak to see Grotto Falls and Lick Falls Overlook trail which is 3 mile loop to see Lick Falls. Unfortunately, I visited on a day that was to sporadically raining with thunder, therefore, I did not leave sight of the van but I did walk around a bit.

The dam tower is large and wanting for the flood of the century but the dam protects so many communities from flooding. But lately, waters have been low and the park have lots of places to play.

The other side of this large dam is grassed over but the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers did a fantastic job as the Dam is still standing after all these years. It was built in 1968. It is about 120 feet high as it blocked the Little Sandy River with the capacity of 118,990 acre feet.

Along the road near the state park is this wonderful fire tower which is open to climb.

It over look another small dam and some nice hills.

The lake itself is the real magic of this park. It is very beautiful and as a lot of activities on and in it.

The park also has a golf course which I don’t know much about golf but it looks well maintained and large. It had a lot of golfers on it when I first arrived but I think that the lighting and the pouring rain got them to quit. Or a true golfer, it would have been the lighting. I believe that a golf club makes a perfect lighting rod.

But I was loving going around the park and finding the dams that were everywhere.

The clouds did not look to bad in the pictures but they where quick moving. Dumped a large amount of rain with thunder and lighting then just moved on.

The park also has a large swimming area. I need to visit in the summer for the water sports. September and November is just a bit chilly to play in the water.

Plus the park has a lot of wildlife running around. I enjoyed my day at Grayson Lake Park even if it was overcast, raining with a bit of thunder and lighting. It was just a sweet day to enjoy. But a great place to visit during all seasons.
