Colonel Denning State Park Ice Skating & Swimming

The Colonel Denning State Park was one of my favorite State Parks. Except I went on the day that it was was 88 degrees at 8 am and climbing with a humid that was off the charts.

So, the hike that I wanted to go on was out of reach because I know my limits. But if you are head there, grab a swim suit and start the Flat Rock Trail which is 2.5 mile up to the top of Blue Mountain which offers a view of the Cumberland Valley while you stand or sit on a flat rock.

But then hit the beach and take a swim.

Double GAP Lake is just so beautiful and clear. In the winter, ice skating is available. In the summer, there is swimming, canoeing, fishing, and relaxing in the lake.

The dam is not very large but it is very wide.

The nature trail that goes around the lake is very pretty and only about a 1 mile around it.

The spillway has a bit of a creek from the dam which can be splashed in.

Camping

The park has 49 site for tents and trailer camping with a shower house plus group organized camping. Pricing started $19.00 for non electric sites and $26.00 for electric sites. For reservations.
